At TUTA, healthcare is important to us and our priority is to strengthen access to quality healthcare globally.
We are committed to helping communities through product development, philanthropic giving and product donations in cooperation with aid agencies and relief programs locally and internationally.
A recent initiative, in cooperation with Sydney Adventist Hospital (“The San”), is sponsorship of the “Reconstructive Program, Nepal” work through Healthcare Outreach.
The program commenced in 1994, and was originally established to treat cleft lips and palate, a significant issue in Nepal. In 2006, a revised program commenced, focusing on burn scar contractures.
Burn scar contractures are a significant problem in Nepal due to the widespread use of naked flame for cooking purposes.
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency’s Nepal staff spent several months finding and screening patients for the team. Their brief was to look for patients who could potentially regain functionality from surgery, but were too poor to be treated without the help of the team.
The dedicated surgical team operate for close to 10 hours each day with some cases running concurrently.
